Jannik Sinner praises Felix Auger-Aliassime ahead of their US Open semifinal as he notices 'big adjustments' he has made

Jannik Sinner has stormed into another US Open semifinal after knocking out Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets.

The ATP number one needed just two hours to defeat his fellow Italian Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Sinner’s level has been labelled “outrageous” amid his latest run in New York, where he is the defending champion.

The Italian is the top seed at the US Open, just as he was last year when he defeated Taylor Fritz in the final to lift the trophy.

Sinner now meets Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals of the hard court Grand Slam, with the duo having just played at the Cincinnati Open.

The world number one thrashed the Canadian 6-0, 6-2 in that quarterfinal tie before going on to retire hurt in his final with Carlos Alcaraz.

But Sinner believes times have changed for Auger-Aliassime since then, saying in his latest press conference: “It’s going to be completely different because the conditions here are different.

“He has had some big wins, it’s a big confidence boost for him and then we see what’s going to happen. I feel like everything can happen.

“From my point of view, I always try to look at myself and I’m very happy to be in the semis of a Grand Slam again.

“I feel like he has improved a lot. Even in one week, you can make big adjustments and I feel like he’s done that.

“It’s going to be a very, very difficult match for both of us and definitely different because it’s a Grand Slam, the energy and everything is going to be different. It’s going to be very interesting to see.”

Can Felix Auger-Aliassime continue impressive record against Jannik Sinner?

Auger-Aliassime, the 25th seed at the US Open, has indeed enjoyed some big wins in his fantastic run so far.

He knocked out Billy Harris and Roman Safiullin in rounds one and two respectively, before a superb third round win over third seed Alexander Zverev.

Two more seeded players – Andrey Rublev and Alex de Minaur – followed in the fourth round and quarterfinals respectively, but the Canadian brushed them aside.

He does, however, now face an entirely different challenge against Sinner, who has dominated hard court Grand Slams in recent times.

Along with his 2024 US Open title, the Italian emerged victorious at the Australian Open in both 2024 and 2025.

And while Auger-Aliassime lost their Cincinnati clash, he can take huge confidence from his overall history with Sinner, going into their match with a 2-1 lead in their head-to-head record.
