Celtic-daft Rod Stewart has insisted he’ll be staying well clear of Ibrox today for the Old Firm, claiming he’d “get his throat cut” if he went.

The 80-year-old rocker made the remark during a live TalkSport interview earlier this week.

When asked if he would be attending the clash, he said: "Are you kidding me? Go to Ibrox? I’ll get me throat cut.”

The Maggie May hitmaker also expressed concern about Rangers’ season, suggesting that a defeat would put them too far behind to catch their rivals.

He added: "It’s unpredictable. It really is. I mean, if they lose, Rangers lose, that’s it.

"Season’s over with nine points in front."

Despite his loyalty to Celtic, Sir Rod did share some sympathy for their rivals, while also criticising the state of Scottish football.

"It’s just awful. I must admit, I do feel sorry for McCoisty and Rangers and all of them.

"I mean, I want to beat them, obviously, but the big picture is Scottish football, you know, and it’s taken an embarrassing turn. Nothing to be proud of."

He told hosts Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil: "Everybody has to understand, we haven’t got the money of Arsenal.

"Everybody knows that.

"But we do seem to be a bit slow in transfers this year. But we have signed two players, Alan, apparently, in the last 24 hours."

He went on to voice frustration at Celtic’s reluctance to attack when chasing a result, as well as their slow transfer activity.

He said: "I counted six sideways passes. Neither of the centre-backs wanted to cross the halfway line. And we needed a goal.

"Now, I've asked my good mate, Gordon Strachan, what this is all about and no one can tell me. Can you two?

"Do you know how much Celtic's team are worth? £120 million. And the team we played in Kazakhstan was worth £9 million."

Despite his criticisms, Sir Rod concluded by saying the unpredictability of the fixture is ultimately “what makes it wonderful.”
