Gardaí in Tralee are investigating an incident prior to the Kerry team homecoming last night, in which a bus crashed into a barrier, knocking down a number of pedestrians and injuring some.

It's understood the driver of the bus has been identified and has spoken to Gardaí.

The incident happened at approximately 6pm, at a time when a large crowd had gathered at the Denny Street/Castle Street junction, to welcome home the victorious Kerry football team.

Three coaches had travelled along the route prior to the arrival of the team, in order to be in place to take the team from Denny Street to Killarney after the event.

Gardaí say the second coach in the convoy struck the metal crowd barrier that was in place near the footpath, and as a result, the barrier fell over knocking a number of people to the ground.

The injuries sustained are understood to have been minor in nature and first aid was administered to those injured at the scene.
