Jose Mourinho has already given glowing verdict on Jadon Sancho, he blamed Erik ten Hag for Man Utd failure

Jose Mourinho made it no secret that he is a fan of Jadon Sancho when asked about the out-of-favour Manchester United winger.

Jadon Sancho’s return to England has not gone as planned.

The England international left England at a young age, leaving Man City for Borussia Dortmund, before establishing himself as one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga.

This led to United chasing Sancho for two years before finally reaching an agreement with Dortmund. The transfer cost £73 million, with Sancho proving to be a flop.

Four years on from his transfer to United, the winger is looking for a new club and a permanent move away from Old Trafford after enjoying a season-long loan at Chelsea.

Chelsea paid a £5m transfer penalty fee for opting not to buy Sancho, despite including an obligation in their loan deal. Reports in Turkey suggest Fenerbahce are optimistic about signing Sancho after reaching an agreement with the player over a proposed salary.

Sancho could form a reunion with Fred if he joins Fenerbahce, but it is also an opportunity for the winger to play under former United manager Jose Mourinho.

What has Jose Mourinho said about Jadon Sancho?

While Sancho’s reputation in European football took a hit during his time at United, especially after his public spat with Erik ten Hag, not everyone viewed the player as the problem.

It is perhaps telling that Sancho couldn’t do enough at Chelsea last season to warrant a permanent deal, but he will still hope to rejuvenate his career elsewhere.

A return to the Bundesliga could require a significant decrease in his salary.

However, a move to Turkey may appeal to Sancho due to their low tax rates and the chance to play in a league with big clubs in front of passionate fans.

It also bodes well for Sancho that Mourinho is a fan.

Mourinho previously expressed his belief that Sancho has the talent to succeed, having blamed Ten Hag for his inconsistency at Old Trafford.

“As a player, we know his talent,” Mourinho said in June last year, as quoted by The Mirror.

“We saw what he can do. What happened at Man United, if I look at my own history, sometimes I fail with players.

“Sometimes I couldn’t create the right empathy, I couldn’t understand the player DNA and I couldn’t help players to grow up in the right direction. In the majority of times, yes, I did it, but on some occasions I couldn’t.

“Sometimes we have to run with the experiences and try to understand the nature of the players. They have the talent but, they don’t have the mindset you want in a player so sure they will make mistakes but the manager was not able to get the best out of him.”

Mourinho added: “Normally, it’s multifactorial, it [could be] the manager, the player, the family, the agent, the club. They’ll look at it and try to analyse what happened at Man United, and what he found in Dortmund.”

Man Utd face £58m loss on Sancho

Ineos are focused on getting Sancho off the wage bill.

That said, Omar Berrada will also try to get the best deal possible for the football club, having accepted that they overspent for his signature back in 2021.

The Sun claims Fenerbahce are willing to pay £15 million for Sancho and they would also match his £10m-a-year wage demands.

That would represent a £58m loss on Sancho in just four years since his arrival.

It is a figure that shows how poor United’s recruitment has been before Ineos took control of football operations.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claims Napoli have put Sancho on their shortlist of options this summer.
