(AP Photo/Scott Heppell)India skipper Shubman Gill broke into the Top 10 of the ICC men’s Test batting rankings for the first time in his career, courtesy of his brilliant performance in the England vs India 2nd Test at Edgbaston. Gill smashed 269 and 161 in the game, becoming only the second player in history to score more than 150 in both innings of a Test, helping India soundly defeat the hosts by 336 runs to level the five-match series 1-1.The victory in Edgbaston was the 25-year-old’s first win as a captain for India in the longest format which also helped him jump 15 places to a career-best No.6 in the rankings. Before this, his best rank was 14th which he achieved in 2023. In the ongoing series, he has already notched up 585 runs with three Tests still to play.
