NEW DELHI: Former India head coach and batting legend Rahul Dravid delivered a warm and witty tribute to Rohit Sharma after a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium was named in the Team India ODI skipper’s honour.Rohit, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, was felicitated by the Mumbai Cricket Association alongside Ajit Wadekar and Sharad Pawar , with each receiving the rare honour of a stand in their name at the historic venue.Dravid, under whose captaincy Rohit debuted in international cricket and under whom India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, shared a heartfelt video message laced with humour and respect."Hey Rohit. Guess you hit so many sixes into those stands that they had to name one after you!" Dravid began, drawing smiles from fans.He continued with admiration: "I’m sure as a young boy going into the iconic Wankhede Stadium — truly one of the great stadiums in the world — you would’ve wanted to have some great performances there, which you have done. I’m not sure you dreamt about having a stand named after you, but that it has come to that — it’s a just reward for your contribution to both Mumbai and Indian cricket.”Adding a cheeky twist, Dravid signed off with a classic punchline: "And when I’m short on tickets in Mumbai — now that you have a stand — I know who to contact.”It was a fitting tribute to a legend, from another.
