Stoke Park’s acquisition marks a significant step by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance, which has added an Indian touch to a historical British monument.

Stoke Park, a magnificent 300-acre country estate on the outskirts of London, has now become a part of the Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries portfolio. Though the Ambani family has no plans to relocate to London, this historic property will be managed by Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. The estate, rich in history, was acquired for approximately £57 million (Rs 529 crore). Here’s a closer look at this iconic property:

1. A 300-Acre Luxury Haven

Stoke Park is full of lush historical gardens, lakes, and monuments with roots tracing back nearly a millennium. Currently, it operates as a 5-star hotel featuring 49 luxury rooms, each equipped with marble-clad bathrooms, and three fine-dining restaurants. For fitness and sports enthusiasts, it has a 4,000-square-foot gym, an indoor swimming pool, 13 tennis courts with multiple surfaces, and a spectacular 27-hole championship golf course.

2. The UK’s Oldest Country Club

Stoke Park became the UK’s first country club in 1908, due to sports visionary Nicholas “Pa” Jackson. Golf course designer Harry Colt, renowned for creating some of the world’s finest courses, made this design for its golf facilities. The 27-hole course remains highly acclaimed, while its tennis courts host the annual five day Boodles Challenge, a pre-Wimbledon tennis exhibition. The courts have seen appearances by tennis legends like Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Juan Martín del Potro.

3. A Royal Connection

Stoke Park has a rich royal heritage. It was once home to Queen Elizabeth I in 1581 after being sold to the Crown to settle the debts of Henry Hastings, 3rd Earl of Huntingdon. The property served as a royal residence until 1908 when it was transformed into a country club. Over the years, it has also hosted prominent royal events, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday and the 60th anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 2016.

4. A Hollywood and James Bond Favorite

Stoke Park has made numerous appearances in iconic films. The estate was the setting for the legendary golf scene in Goldfinger and the bedroom scene in Tomorrow Never Dies, both part of the James Bond movies. Additionally, it featured in Daniel Craig’s 2008 film RocknRolla and the 2001 rom-com Bridget Jones’s Diary.

5. New Chapter Under Reliance Industries

Reliance Industries has announced plans to restore Stoke Park as a premier golfing and sports resort while showcasing Indian hospitality on a global stage. Renovations were done for the hotel and health club for 2 years. Now Stoke Park, the luxury hotel, golf, and country club in Buckinghamshire, is open for “pay and play” rounds and events, with the golf course open Wednesday to Sunday.
