The 2025/26 Premier League season starts tonight, Friday, August 15, and Sky Sports has unveiled some significant alterations to its coverage. With Liverpool starting their title defence at home against Bournemouth, fans can now cut the price.

Other fixtures lined up for the opening weekend include Wolves vs Man City, Chelsea vs Crystal Palace and Man United vs Arsenal. In anticipation of the new season, Sky has confirmed it will air a 'record breaking' number of live matches as its coverage expands from 128 to at least 215 live games.

Sky claims this accounts for 80% of all televised Premier League matches and includes every displaced 2pm Sunday kick-off, touted as 'a first for any UK broadcaster'. To catch all these matches - along with over 1,000 live games across the EFL, SPFL, WSL and Bundesliga - football enthusiasts will require a Sky Sports subscription, which is priced at £20 per month for new subscribers, roughly equating to 66p per day.

To make the offer more appealing, Sky has confirmed it will host every final-day Premier League match, alongside the most festive fixtures of the season, including the return of Boxing Day action to Sky. There are also several new additions to the Sky Sports schedule, including 'Supersized Super Sundays', where up to four matches will be broadcast live and simultaneously on weekends following midweek European fixtures.

Sky is set to launch a new 'Multiview' programme, offering dynamic live coverage from all games simultaneously, complete with dedicated commentary and analysis on Sky TV and the Sky Sports app. Leading the charge for Sky Sports' coverage is Match of the Day's Mark Chapman, who joins the existing Premier League presenting team of David Jones and Kelly Cates, reports the Express.

They will be joined by Sky's pundit team, featuring Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Daniel Sturridge, Izzy Christiansen, Micah Richards and Jamie Redknapp, who will provide insight and opinions throughout the season. Former Liverpool defender Carragher will also host Sky's 'Extra Time' analysis and reaction show, delving into key moments of the games on major Sundays with multiple fixtures.

Regarding the changes, Chief Sports Officer for Sky, Jonathan Licht, stated: "This is a landmark season for Sky Sports and the Premier League. For the first time, we'll bring fans over 215 live matches, including every 2pm kick-off on Super Sunday.

"We're introducing new innovations like Multiview, new programmes like Super Sunday: Extra Time, and a new look schedule for Sky Sports News. From the moment the season kicks off, we'll be helping fans stay across all the biggest stories and making sure they never miss a moment of the action."

Sky's Premier League coverage can be accessed with a Sky Sports subscription, and those without an existing Sky package can choose the flagship Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for £35 per month. However, Virgin Media also offers access to Sky Sports through its own TV packages, providing another avenue to enjoy the new season.

Currently, Virgin is running its competitive Summer of Sports sale, offering discounts on its Sky Sports packages until 2 September. The deals begin with the Bigger Combo bundle + Sports, which includes over 200 TV channels - eight of which are from Sky Sports - and 516Mbps fibre broadband.

This package has been reduced from £65.99 to £54.99, resulting in a saving of £264. However, both Sky and Virgin's plans come with a caveat: customers will face at least two bill increases during their 24-month term, as each provider plans to raise their prices every April. This year, Sky implemented a 6.2% increase for its TV customers, but has not yet confirmed next year's adjustment.

Virgin has already announced that its Bigger Combo bundle + Sports will increase to £58.49 from April 2026 and £61.99 from April 2027. One advantage Sky has over its competitors is the option to cancel a contract after a price rise is announced, an option not provided by Virgin.
