United confirm tribute to victims of synagogue attack

United will pay tribute to the victims of the horrific terror attack on a synagogue in which two people lost their lives.

It has been confirmed that a minute's silence will be held at Old Trafford ahead of the game against Sunderland on Saturday and black armbands will be worn.

The attack saw a car driven at members of the public, before the attacker emerged and began stabbing those congregated outside. The attack took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Two innocent members of Manchester's Jewish community - Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz - tragically died in the attack. Four others were injured, with three still in hospital with serious injuries.

Amorim on criticism from ex-United players

"It’s normal, we cannot run away from the results. And then you have the baggage from last season. Last season doesn't matter to me, in relation to the system we have already spoke about that. We had six games this season and we have lost three. And if we lost against Arsenal because of the system? It’s your job to make the opinions. When you saw the game against City, was the first think that you thought when the game started was the system? I don't think you thought about the system in that moment. And Brentford. The way we concede goals, create chances, that is nothing to do with the system, that is my opinion. I'm not saying this team will do better in a different system, that's not my point. My point is if I look at the games we didn't win, the most important thing when I watched the game is not we lost because of the system. That is my opinion, then people have different opinions and that's ok."

Amorim on Sunderland

"It’s going to be a really tough match, they are doing really well. When you see their games, they draw with one less player in the final of the game. They draw a point and then win in the final play against Brentford. I think the details are changing a lot the table, so we need to pay attention to that. So it’s a team that plays really well, with a clear system, 4-3-3 with a lot of rotations on the side of the pitch. They will be confident and know we are under pressure. We need to be prepared for that. It will be a tough match."

Malacia welcomed back

United defender Tyrell Malacia has been reintegrated into the first-team group.

Malacia expressed his desire to leave United in the summer and was widely categorised in the 'bomb squad' by the media, alongside Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Interest in Malacia was thin on the ground, and a proposed move to Elche collapsed on transfer deadline day. Malacia was included in United's registered squad with the Premier League, and Ruben Amorim said: "He is returning with contact with the ball with the Under-21s, then we will see."

After training with the academy, Malacia has now been welcomed back to the first-team group, raising the possibility of him being named in a Premier League matchday squad again.

Amorim's future

Amorim will no doubt be asked about his future at the club today.

A whole host of managers have been linked with the United job if the club do part ways with Amorim, with Eddie Howe one of the names to have been mentioned.

The Newcastle boss has spoken about the rumours he could move to Old Trafford.

Why do players thrive after leaving United?

Rasmus Hojlund scored twice for Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Hojlund showcased his pace to get in behind Sporting Lisbon's backline for the first goal, and finished brilliantly with a header to win the game for Napoli after a Sporting equaliser.

Speaking after the game, Kevin De Bruyne compared Hojlund to Erling Haaland, which begs the question: why do players improve significantly when they leave Manchester United?

Scott McTominay has been a revelation at Napoli. McTominay opened up on life in Naples during an interview this year, and he's clearly a fan of the food on offer. "Oh my goodness, the tomatoes. Bellissimo," he said. "I never ate them at home, they are just red water. Here, they actually taste like tomatoes. It is all so fresh. It’s incredible."

Could Hojlund's improvement be down to a diet of freshly picked tomatoes from the hills of southern Italy? Is there a curse at Old Trafford that makes it impossible to perform?
