Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been told to leave the club if he wants to feature for Germany at World Cup 2026.Ter Stegen has reportedly been told he’s no longer No. 1 at Barcelona, following the arrival of Joan Garcia, but is said to be determined to stay and fight for his place.Former Bayern and Germany legend Lothar Mathaus has offered some advice to Ter Stegen and told him it’s time to move on.“In my opinion, Ter Stegen will not play for Barça again. He needs to play to achieve his dream of participating in the World Cup; if he wants to play in the World Cup, he should leave,” he said, as reported by Marca. “I understand [Ter Stegen] — he performed well, was a team captain, and has his life in Barcelona, but he must accept his fate now. The club has other ideas and different plans. “These are decisions that must be accepted, there’s no need to complain as this is part of football. There is nothing and nobody bigger than the club.”Ter Stegen has since returned to the club for pre-season but has been training away from the squad in the first few days. It’s not clear yet what will happen, although he is believed to have attracted interest from Galatasaray and Monaco.
