What Manchester United think of Yan Diomande, wonderkid has had lightning rise

Christopher Vivell has already picked Manchester United up some elite talents, but Yan Diomande would be on an entirely different level.

Since becoming the director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell has revitalised the transfer department at Manchester United with some seriously exciting additions.

Set to arrive in 2026, Cristian Orozco looks really exciting as he follows in the footsteps of Sekou Kone and Diego Leon, both of whom also look like future first-team players.

However, now United in Focus understands that RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande has emerged as a target, and he would be the biggest youth talent pick-up yet for United.

Manchester United consider Yan Diomande generational

Plans for the 2026 summer transfer window are already being formulated, and this looks set to include Diomande for United.

United in Focus understands, via Graeme Bailey, that 18-year-old Diomande has caught the eye of Europe’s elite, and this includes plenty of Premier League sides.

Diomande is a left-winger, and Bailey has explained to United in Focus how special his rise has been with the Red Devils noticing.

“Yan Diomande is a name that many in England are not aware of, but they soon will – this boy is special. In less than 12 months, he has gone from high school football in America to Spain to the Bundesliga, where he is now regarded by Leipzig as one of the best young players in Europe.

“He is just 18, but he is one of those seemingly seen as a generational talent. United, for their part, are aware of him, but everyone is.”

Diomande is one of the talents who will have most of Europe chasing him; however, United might have an ace card to play.

Christopher Vivell could be the ace card in Diomande deal

If United decide to formalise an offer for Diomande, it would see them back at RB Leipzig’s door after paying £66m to sign Benjamin Sesko last summer.

In this case, United will have Vivell as an ace card, as the German is a previous employee of the Bundesliga outfit and the Red Bull group generally, and so has connections to make doing deals easier.

Diomande is an electric winger with goal threat and creativity; however, he also works very hard, winning plenty of duels and interceptions for Leipzig.

This could see him become almost an ideal wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s system, with additions on the left side set to be a priority in the 2026 transfer window.
