UAE club handed deadline to sign Manchester United winger

Man Utd youngster Sam Mather has been involved in first-team training this week but could still leave the club.

Al Wahda FC have until the end of the weekend to agree on a deal to sign Manchester United youngster Sam Mather.

Mather received an offer from Al Wahda after missing out on a permanent move to Kayserispor.

United have insisted on including a buy-back clause into the deal, which is common practice for departures from the academy, and the transfer hinges on whether the UAE club agree to that clause.

Al Wahda have been told they must decide this weekend or Mather will stay at United.

The UAE side have been informed of the deadline so there is no more uncertainty for the youngster.

Mather has trained with the first team at Carrington all week ahead of the Brentford game, raising the possibility of the 21-year-old being named on the bench at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Casemiro is suspended, Noussair Mazraoui has been ruled out due to injury, and Amad will stay at home in Manchester while he continues to receive support following a family bereavement.

Kayserispor were in advanced talks to sign Mather on Turkey's transfer deadline day, but United felt they didn't have enough time to complete the transfer and the deal collapsed.

Mather targeted a move to Europe throughout the summer window and received enquiries from clubs in Germany, Sweden and Turkey.

The winger has outgrown academy football and wants to compete in a senior environment. Playing in the AFC Champions League would be a sweetener for Mather to make the switch to the UAE.
