KEY HIGHLIGHTS Shahid Afridi has reacted to Rohit Sharma's statement on India-Pakistan Test series

The two teams haven't played a Test series since 2007

They last played a bilateral series in 2012/13

India and Pakistan have a long rivalry and the two teams smash viewership records whenever they lock horns. The two teams now only face each other in ICC tournaments and Asia Cups. They last squared off in a Test match in 2007. India and Pakistan haven't played a white-ball bilateral series since 2013. The fans crave to see the blockbuster clash between the two teams on the cricket field.

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Rohit Sharma shared his take on a Test series between the two teams and said that it would be awesome. "We play them in ICC trophies anyway, so it doesn't really matter. It's just pure cricket that I'm looking at. I'm not interested in anything else. They're a good team. They've got a superb bowling lineup, so it'll be a good contest especially if you play in overseas conditions. That'll be awesome," the India captain said.

A day after Rohit's comment, Shahid Afridi has reacted to it and shared his take. Speaking to Samaa TV, the former Pakistan captain said: "Bilkul bahut acha jawab hai, hona bhi yahi chahiye (very good answer, the series should happen). A positive statement from an Indian captain. He is also an ambassador of India. We have always said that the relationship between Pakistan and India.....sports -especially cricket - has played an important role in it. We used to go to India and play cricket there. These things build relationship....padosi hai padosiyo ka haq hota relationship jitna behtar ho utna acha hai (it's neighbours right to have a good relationship)."

Rohit played against Pakistan early in his career as he was part India's 2007 T20 World Cup team. He scored a vital 30 off 16 balls in the final as India registered a total of 157/5 on the board. The Men in Blue won the game by five runs.

India-Pakistan to renew rivalry

India and Pakistan will renew their rivalry and share the field in the league stage match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 9. The fixture will be played in New York. The two teams last squared off in the league stage match of the 2023 ODI World Cup. India won the game comfortably. The Men in Green had travelled to India for the ICC event in 2023.

Pakistan once again failed to qualify for the second round and crashed out early. India made it to the final of the tournament, where they lost to Australia.
