South African legend Dale Steyn believes hosts England will beat India 3-2 in the upcoming five-Test Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, which begins in Headingley on June 20. The former fast-bowler anticipates all five matches to be ‘very close’ and still without any draws.

India, led by a new young captain in Shubman Gill, are in Leeds to prepare for a massive challenge — beating England at their home for the first time since 2007. They’ll be without big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, relying instead on younger, upcoming stars. The hosts are much more settled and experienced under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, but are dealing with injuries, especially in the bowling department.

“All games will be close," Steyn told the broadcasters after the World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa at Lord’s, as quoted by The Indian Express. “But all will have a result. I think it will be 3-2 in favour of England. There will be a result in every Test match. There will be no run-away win for any team, all five games will be very close."

The Proteas won the WTC summit clash by five wickets, led by a stellar century from Aiden Markram, a valiant fifty from skipper Temba Bavuma, and brilliant spells from Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi.

Steyn lauded his countrymen for not only getting over the line against the mighty defending champions but also for their consistency over the two-year-long cycle.

“From the start of this World Test Championship cycle, South Africa knew they had to win a certain number of games to make it to the final — and they did that, winning seven in a row, regardless of the opposition. It doesn’t matter who you’re up against, anyone who’s played Test cricket will tell you that winning even a single Test match is never easy. To win seven consecutively, earn a spot in the final, and then go on to get over the line today — that’s absolutely huge," he said. “These are two massive teams. They’ve been fierce rivals for years. Australia commands a lot of respect from every South African cricketer for all that they’ve achieved, especially their world titles. So South Africa knew this was going to be one of their toughest tests."
