Ian Wright and Peter Crouch clash over Sunderland vs Arsenal score prediction

Arsenal travel to Sunderland for a Premier League meeting on Saturday, and Ian Wright and Peter Crouch can’t agree on a winner.

Sunderland’s impressive start in the Premier League means Regis Le Bris’ men go into the weekend’s action fourth in the division, level on points with Liverpool.

They recently took the scalp of Chelsea and are looking to add another London giant to the list this weekend.

Arsenal can set a record by beating the Black Cats, but predicting a winner is seemingly a tough task for former players.

Sunderland vs Arsenal score prediction

Speaking on the latest episode of Stick To Football, Gunners legend Ian Wright backed his former side to win.

Wright initially said that Sunderland would score, but quickly changed his mind and predicted another clean sheet for Mikel Arteta’s men.

He said: “I’m going to go 2-1. You know what I’m going to do? No, 2-0. 2-0 Arsenal.”

Peter Crouch, on the other hand, thinks an upset could be on the cards when Arsenal travel to the Stadium of Light.

On his own podcast, Crouch backed the North East outfit to come away with a 1-0 win.

He said: “I think that’s what I mean. I think going there, the crowd will be up for it. The players, it’s their cup final.

“I need something big. And I’m going to go with Sunderland 1-0. I’m willing to die on this sword.”

Last time Sunderland beat Arsenal

While Crouch thinks the home side will emerge victorious, it’s been some time since Sunderland got one over on the current league leaders.

The last meeting between the two sides was a League Cup fixture in December 2021, which Arsenal won 5-1.

Prior to that, the pair last faced off in the Premier League back in May 2017, with Arsenal winning 2-0.

The last time Sunderland beat the North Londoners in any competition was February 18, 2012, in the FA Cup.

Kieran Richardson and an own goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain decided the fixture.
