Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff's team of rookie cricketers have taken on the police in the latest episode of his Field of Dreams TV series.

The former England star's new team from Liverpool donned their whites at Firwood Bootle Cricket Club as they played against a Merseyside Police side.

The Ashes hero, of Preston, Lancashire, has given disadvantaged teenagers a chance at a fresh start in the latest series.

Deputy Chief Constable Chris Green, who played in the match, said: "It was brilliant meeting and playing against each of those lads. Some incredible talent and you could see they had received guidance from Freddie and the coaches and the respect they had for them."

The police team's captain Sgt Mike Almond added: "When we arrived it was clear that many weren't thrilled about playing 'the bizzies'.

"But through genuine interaction and playing the game in the right spirit, something shifted.

"By the end, they were shaking our hands, having tea together, sharing stories and listening to ours too."

The programme has shown how cricket can help change people's lives and Flintoff is also training young women in Blackpool as part of the series.

A girl who learned how to play the game previously told how she discovered a lot from the former cricketer about the importance of mental health.
