Wings select Paige Bueckers with 1st overall pick

The Dallas Wings selected UConn star Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft on Monday.

Bueckers fills the Wings' need for a dynamic point guard and gives the club a one-two punch in the backcourt alongside Arike Ogunbowale.

She's the first Husky player since Breanna Stewart in 2016 to be taken with the top selection. The Minnesota native averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 boards, 4.6 assists, and 2.1 steals over four seasons in Storrs. She recently helped UConn snap its nine-year national title drought.

Bueckers also won numerous awards during her collegiate career. She captured the Wooden Award as a freshman, two Nancy Lieberman Awards as the nation's top point guard, and unanimous All-American first-team honors on three occasions.

Bueckers leaves UConn as its all-time leading scorer in the Big Dance (477 points) and with the highest career scoring average (19.8 points per contest). She's the only player in NCAA Tournament history to have four 25-point games in the Elite Eight, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Dallas is looking to bounce back from a disastrous 9-31 campaign. The Wings are just two years removed from a WNBA semifinals appearance but traded two-time All-Star and 2023 Most Improved Player Satou Sabally during the offseason.

Dallas later selected NC State guard Aziaha James and Ole Miss forward Madison Scott with the 12th and 14th overall pick, respectively.
