BREAKING - A new twist in the Hollymount Carramore and Kilmaine saga

The two-point saga which has gripped Mayo football took another turn this afternoon.

The Mayo News understands that Kilmaine GAA Club have now lodged a counter-objection after Hollymount Carramore earlier objected to the result of last Friday night's intermediate championship match between the sides.

The game ended in a draw which knocked Hollymount Carramore out of the competition and sent Kilmaine into the quarter-finals.

However, on Monday evening, Hollymount Carramore lodged an appeal with Mayo GAA, maintaining that the result should be amended giving them a one-point win. The appeal was taken on the basis that a score kicked by Kilmaine's Kevin Mullin just before half-time had been recorded in error.

The appeal was based on video evidence which suggested that Kevin Mullin's score just before half time was recorded as a two-pointer by referee Declan Corcoran, when it should have been a single point.

Now, Kilmaine have lodged a counter-appeal saying that the referee's report is sacrosanct and said report states that the game ended in a 0-18 to 1-15 draw.

It's now in the hands of Mayo GAA to rule on the matter and it remains to be seen whether that decision will be appealed further.
