Fairytale hat-trick: Team of tradies, Uber drivers shocks billionaire’s A-League side

Semi-professional club Heidelberg United have reached the Australia Cup final after upsetting a third A-League club in a row in triumphant scenes at Olympic Village on Saturday night.

Goals from Bul Juach in the 74th minute and Asahi Yokokawa in the 84th minute saw the Bergers past reigning A-League premiers Auckland FC 2-0 in front of a packed home ground in Melbourne’s north.

The Bergers, coached by John Anastasiadis, have not only beaten three professional sides but kept them scoreless across those games with the Western Sydney Wanderers and Wellington Phoenix falling in the previous two rounds.

This is a team made up of civil engineers, aviation managers, mortgage brokers, men’s wear shop assistants, labourers, students, football coaches and Uber drivers. Auckland, by contrast, are owned by an American billionaire.
