Man Utd wonderkid target Dell has new release clause amid U17 World Cup goals

Manchester United scouts have several key targets at the U17 World Cup but one has become a whole lot more expensive to sign.

The U17 World Cup is in the final round of the group stage matches, and knockout football begins in the coming days, and Manchester United will be as present as ever.

Prior to the competition kicking off, United in Focus revealed that United had scouts watching wonderkids in Qatar, and among them was the Brazilian Erling Haaland, 17-year-old Dell from Bahia.

Alongside a handful of Brazilians, United were keeping an eye on Dell and with three goals in the competition already, that interest will be growing, but he won’t come cheap.

Dell tied down to huge release clause amid Manchester United interest

Almost in anticipation of Dell taking the U17 World Cup by storm, his club Bahia acted to secure his immediate future with a new contract running until 2028.

Interestingly, this includes a new release clause of R$617 million, or £87 million in pounds sterling.

Who is your dream Manchester United signing in 2026?

This is the buyout fee for foreign clubs who may be keen on Dell, and United are sure to be among the parties who want to sign the 17-year-old when his time comes.

The striker affectionately known as “Haaland of the Sertão” in Brazil has racked up three goals for the impressive U17 side at the World Cup in Qatar, which is a tally among the most in the tournament.

Manchester United face an uphill battle for Dell beyond just his release clause

Dell’s performances will catch the eyes of many, but his goals aren’t confined to the U17 World Cup. The teenager has scored 21 goals in 39 U20 Bahia games this season, which is an impressive record leading to senior recognition and two appearances.

However, Bahia expert O Preto Tricolour on X has explained that should United formalise interest, it will be tough to defeat Manchester City to his signature.

This is because City Group owns 90% of Bahia’s footballing operations, and his natural future is considered to be at City if he ends up being at the level he appears to be.

Given Dell’s success at Bahia in academy football, he will likely have City seriously considering him, and if United are interested, the price will be much higher than if City were.
