Exclusive: Big Bruno Fernandes Update After Man Utd Europa League Final Defeat

1
Manchester United are planning to resist any approaches for Bruno Fernandes even though Al-Hilal have already offered the Old Trafford fan favourite a contract and are threatening to make a formal bid as they aim to land him ahead of the Club World Cup, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The Red Devils' season hit a new low point when they suffered a narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final earlier this week, allowing the north Londoners to end their 17-year wait for silverware, and head coach Ruben Amorim is planning to make alterations to his squad during the summer transfer window.

Fernandes has been on Manchester United's books since completing a switch worth an initial £47million from Sporting in January 2020, but Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have set their sights on attempting to convince him to embark on a fresh challenge in the aftermath of being unable to add to the trophy cabinet in his current surroundings.

Amorim Still Determined to Retain Fernandes

Red Devils planning to resist temptation to cash in on captain

Manchester United do not want to sell Fernandes due to seeing him as being integral to their project, according to GMS sources, and there is determination to resist the temptation to sanction his departure even if astronomical proposals are put on the table as Al-Hilal aim to wrap up a deal in the coming days.

The Red Devils' captain is preparing to enter the final two years of a contract which allows him to pocket up to £375,000-per-week when bonuses are triggered, resulting in his admirers sniffing a potential opportunity to pounce as they go in search of making marquee signings ahead of next season.

GMS' senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs is aware that Fernandes is firmly on Al-Hilal's radar as a serious target, with him already being offered terms, but Manchester United are eager to hold firm if they are forced to enter discussions over a potential switch. He said:

"There's no doubt that Al-Hilal want Bruno Fernandes. He is one of their top targets. They've been trying for a few weeks and there is urgency on the Al-Hilal side because they want to try and get Bruno Fernandes in time for the Club World Cup. "He has been offered a non-binding three-year contract. But there has been no approach to Manchester United, and their position before and after the Europa League final is the same - they don't want to lose him. "It's going to be difficult for Al-Hilal, but they're going to be particularly ambitious and aggressive in the next 10 days because they want stars in time for the Club World Cup."
