David Ornstein reveals how Marc Guehi feels about a potential move to Liverpool

Liverpool are still in the market for another centre-back after Giovanni Leoni arrived at Anfield on Friday.

The 18-year-old joined the Reds in a £26 million move from Parma as Arne Slot aims to bolster his backline in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Marc Guehi is a name that has been linked with a move to Anfield all summer as he enters the final 12 months of his deal at Crystal Palace.

TBR Football understands that Guehi is expected to stay at Crystal Palace as things stand, but he has no intentions of extending his stay at Selhurst Park beyond the end of the season and will likely depart as a free agent in 2026.

However, Liverpool want to sign Guehi now, and while they continue to explore the possibility of closing a deal before the 1 September deadline, his feelings behind a potential transfer have been revealed.

Marc Guehi wants to leave Crystal Palace for Liverpool

When speaking on Sky Sports’ Sky Mobile Transfer Show, journalist David Ornstein shared the latest update regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of Guehi.

“At this moment, from what I hear, if the clubs agreed a deal, I think he would veer towards making the move. He probably appreciates what it would mean for Crystal Palace and also to his career.

“But the conditions have to be right, he’s a very clear thinking guy, Marc Guehi, and if that comes to pass, and the conditions are not right at Liverpool. In terms of game time and the package or whatever, then he’ll stay, no problem.”

Chief correspondent Graeme Bailey exclusively revealed to TBR Football that Liverpool will only sign Guehi on favourable terms and will not be forced into overpaying for the England international, as they could get him for free next summer.

However, there is an understanding at the Reds that Guehi will be one of the most in-demand free agents on the market in 2026, and the increased competition could see Slot lose his man.

Meanwhile, the saga could be ultimately decided by the long-term future of Ibrahima Konate, who is demanding “big money” to extend his contract at Anfield.

The Frenchman has also entered the final year of his contract, and as TBR Football exclusively revealed in June, Liverpool are worried about the contract negotiations.

Liverpool face Premier League competition for Marc Guehi

While the competition for Guehi’s signature will be fierce next summer, should he remain at Selhurst Park, Liverpool are not the only side looking to capitalise on Palace’s eagerness to sell.

Newcastle United have a long-standing interest in the 25-year-old and are reportedly monitoring the situation after they saw a bid in the region of £70 million rejected in February.

Tottenham have also approached Guehi and have presented the defender with a “very, very, very good” offer to snatch Guehi from under Liverpool’s nose.

As widely reported, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has publicly stated that a deal for Guehi is to be done this summer. Liverpool supporters will be eagerly watching to see how the situation develops in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
