Man City’s Jeremy Doku Proved He’s ‘World-Class’ in Masterclass vs Dortmund

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden will get all the plaudits after starring in Manchester City's 4-1 win over Borussia Dortmund but Pep Guardiola has another attacker fans feel he can hang his hat on.

The Cityzens produced a dominant performance to see off Dortmund, and Haaland netted against his former club to continue his red-hot form. The Norwegian was joined on the scoresheet by Foden, who reminded England manager Thomas Tuchel of his talent with a brace, and second-half substitute Rayan Cherki joined the party.

The three points mean City sit fourth in the Champions League table with 10 points from four games and it was the type of display that suggested the Sky Blues could be contenders for the European title come May next year. Guardiola has a stacked pool of attacking talent at his disposal, including Jeremy Doku, whom supporters applauded.

Man City 4-1 Dortmund - Jeremy Doku 'Turnaround' Isn't Going Unnoticed

Doku's spell at the Etihad has been a topsy-turvy ride due to constant fitness struggles that have plagued his development with the Premier League heavyweights. The Belgian is one of the most formidable wingers in European football at his best, but his injury woes have been a recurring problem he's had to fix.

The 23-year-old has started living up to expectations this season, and his showing against Dortmund was another one that has seen him start to win fans over. His pace was a real nuisance for the likes of Julian Reyerson and Waldemar Anton and he was right in the thick of the action, winning 10 of 15 ground duels while producing a fine assist for Haaland.

"When Jeremy is there, they send two or three because in the box one v one he is unstoppable" - Guardiola on Doku back in September (via the club's website).

It bodes well for the Belgium international as City look to kick on and catch Arsenal in the Premier League title race while battling it out in Europe midweek. Any suggestions that Guardiola may look to find a replacement due to injury concerns have been firmly put to bed thanks to his consistent performances.

"World Class" Doku Becoming Undroppable

Doku is in his third season with City, and he seems ready to take on a talismanic role alongside Haaland and Foden. It's a new era with Guardiola and new sporting director Hugo Viana, who are rebuilding a squad that needed refreshing after dominating the Premier League for a decade.

The Belgian has all the tools to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling and be a mainstay in this City side for years to come. He's certainly got the backing of fans who feel he is one of a few elite stars in the squad.

That was the stance given by one fan in response to his performance tonight:

"Like I said, Jeremy Doku is a World Class player, winger and talent. One of the few we have at City. Unbelievable turnaround."

Another fan pointed out the Belgian's incredible agility:

"Doku shift is the most dangerous move in sport since the Curry slide."

One supporter hailed his growth:

"Jeremy Doku has stepped up massively, 4 goals and 5 assists already this season, I’m so happy for him."

Another replied:

"Foden, Doku, Haaland today have been exceptional man."

One fan made a bold claim:

"Doku’s actually underrated."
