Thomas Muller has said he was attracted to Manchester United “many times” during his career but has laughed off any suggestion that he would be interested in a summer move.

The German forward is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the Club World Cup and is on the lookout for a new club. And while he would be keen on trying his luck abroad, the veteran reckons it would be a poor fit for both himself and United were he to go to Old Trafford now.

In an interview with CBS Sports, Muller was asked: “Is there a European league for you that you kind of have a hankering to say 'I would like to have played in the Premier League' or…?"

And he replied: "Yeah, I thought about it. There were some moments I thought, 'Ok, maybe it would be nice to experience it.”

Muller was then asked "Do Manchester United look appealing to you?" The veteran replied: "Many times. Or do you mean now? No, no, no I'm not the right guy for them and they are not the right club for me. They want to have fun and I want to have fun so that's not a match.”

Bayern have had an approach for Liverpool star Luis Diaz rejected and have now been linked with a deal for Marcus Rashford, who is open to playing abroad having been told there is no route back into Ruben Amorim’s good books at United.

United's first team squad reconvene for pre-season training on Monday July 7, leaving Amorim with a potentially awkward reunion with several players who are expected to leave by the end of the summer transfer window. That also includes Antony, the Brazilian winger who spent the second half of last season enjoying a successful loan at Real Betis.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and remain keen on a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, though the Bees asking price remains some way off United’s current valuation, while talk of a move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has slowed because his current side appear unwilling to budge on a £85m asking price.

Amorim's side will officially kick off pre-season training next Monday, July 7, with their first friendly pencilled in against promoted rivals Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19.

They then head to the United States for a training camp and three warm-up fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before hosting Fiorentina at Old Trafford a week before the Premier League season kicks off.
