Former Indian footballer DMK Afzal, 1962 Asian Games gold medallist, die

DMK Afzal, a former Indian football player and part of the gold medal-winning team from the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, died on Wednesday. He was 81 and had been battling with prolonged health issues.

Dost Mohammad Khan Afzal, who was popularly known as DMK Afzal, was a midfielder by trade and came up from the city of Hyderabad. He was mentored by legendary Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim.

He made two international appearances for the Indian men’s football team in his career, including his debut match against the Republic of Korea in the group stages of Jakarta 1962.
