0
The seeds come into play on day 3 of the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters. Ben Shelton is playing for the first time since retiring at the US Open due to a shoulder injury. The American will face last year’s quarterfinalist David Goffin, while his compatriot (and Beijing finalist two from two days ago) Learner Tien takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in their second meeting. Who do you think will advance to the next stage of the event? We have predictions for every day 3 match from this Masters 1000.

ATP Shanghai Day 3 Predictions

Luca Nardi vs Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

Head-to-head: First meeting

For now Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is still ranked in the Top 40 of the ATP Rankings, but he will have some big questions to ask this month with the Basel title defense coming up. The Frenchman’s lottery playstyle has been just that, leading to a complete lack of consistency in his results. While Luca Nardi is not holding up that well on the ATP Tour, any match with Mpetshi Perricard right now is about a few points here or there. It’s tough to say which direction these crucial moments might go.

Prediction: Mpetshi Perricard in 3

Learner Tien vs Miomir Kecmanovic

Head-to-head: Kecmanovic 1-0

Learner Tien was just 16 when he took a set off Miomir Kecmanovic at the 2022 US Open, which was a sign of good things to come from the American. Now he’s playing him again, just two days after competing in his maiden ATP Tour final in Beijing. While he did get that Friday start and a day of rest, switching to another event might not be that easy. Tien is a better player than Kecmanovic right now, but all the circumstances around this match point to him potentially struggling to deliver.

Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3

Francisco Cerundolo vs Adrian Mannarino

Head-to-head: First meeting

Adrian Mannarino was dreadful for the first five months of the year, but regained his mojo on grass and is keeping it up now. The veteran doesn’t look close to ending his career anymore and has been tricky to handle for almost any player in the world of late. Francisco Cerundolo can play some decent hard-court tennis, but the low-skidding ball of Mannarino should keep him on his toes and never allow him to find a comfortable hitting range.

Prediction: Mannarino in 3

Ben Shelton vs David Goffin

Head-to-head: Goffin 1-0

David Goffin is battling to remain in the Top 100 after a tough season so far, especially as he’s defending points for reaching the quarterfinals in Shanghai last year. Not much about his form suggests he can go on a run like this again, it’s more the uncertainty regarding Ben Shelton. The American was flying in the hard-court swing leading up to the US Open, before having to retire before the fifth set against Adrian Mannarino. While he lost to Goffin in Acapulco in February, he’s made a leap since and should be winning this if he’s okay physically.

Prediction: Shelton in 2
