After rare, game-changing gaffe, Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer reeling as Real Madrid advances to Champions League finale

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had been magnificent for 87 minutes, but in the 88th minute, his world unraveled...at the worst time.

A poor decision to attempt a long throw resulted in a turnover, which eventually cycled through the Real Madrid attack for a shot that the sure-handed Neuer typically fields easily.

Not this time, though, Neuer spilled the rebound right to a hard-charging Joselu for a goal to knot the game at 1-1. Real Madrid — controversially — walked away with a 2-1 win (4-3 on aggregate) and Neuer was despondent.

“Anyone who’s ever played football knows how I’m feeling right now. That we’ve been knocked out in the closing stages, having led 1-0 until the (88th minute), it’s extremely bitter. We had taken one step to London, we saw ourselves in the final and now I’m lost for words,” Neuer told DAZN (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Neuer was probably the only reason the game was even that close, but even legends have down moments. For the 38-year-old, it is surely one that he will not want to relive any time soon.
