Victor Lindelof leaves Manchester United this summer after spending eight years at Old Trafford.

Victor Lindelof has made a total of 283 appearances for Manchester United since joining from Benfica for £31 million in 2017.

The Swedish centre back won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his eight seasons at Old Trafford.

There were plenty of lows experienced in those years, with Lindelof a member of two United teams that lost Europa League finals.

United announced Lindelof’s departure at the end of the season, which means he is free to negotiate a contract with a new club this summer.

Lindelof found himself out of favour over the past season, and he made just six starts in the Premier League. The Swede sustained three injuries throughout the season, which resulted in him being unavailable for selection.

Victor Lindelof reflects on time at Manchester United

After falling down the pecking order at United, it is no surprise that Lindelof leaves Old Trafford at the end of his contract.

The arrivals of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro should mean that Lindelof’s time in the team would be limited, if he were to stay.

Now 30, Lindelof has a chance to find a club where he can play regular football and focus on earning as many caps for Sweden as possible.

Lindelof has revealed that he will always be a United fan in a heartfelt interview with club media.

Even though the 2024/25 season was disastrous for United, Lindelof believes he got the ‘perfect ending’ because he played in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the season.

“A perfect ending,” Lindelof told MUTV. “Clean sheet and a win, so it was a great ending.

“To spend it with my family here [on the pitch afterwards], as well, was special. So, yeah, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending.”

Lindelof added: “Yeah, I am proud of myself. It’s been a lot of ups and downs.

“But I mean, for me to be able to represent this club for eight years, it’s been an honour and a privilege, and a dream come true.”

When asked to pick out the highlight of his time at United, Lindelof couldn’t look beyond United’s 2-1 win over Man City in the FA Cup final.

“I think the FA Cup was great,” the Swede said. “Obviously, such an historic cup and to be able to win it was amazing.”

Lindelof reveals what he will miss most at Old Trafford

After making it clear that it will be difficult to leave Manchester this summer, Lindelof revealed what he will miss most about Old Trafford.

United fans are renowned for getting behind the team — win, lose or draw – so it was only right that Lindelof would pay tribute to the faithful supporters.

“I’ve had so many good memories here,” Lindelof concluded. “Just looking at the Stretford End here, I mean, I’m going to miss it a lot.

“They’re [the fans] with us through absolutely everything, and it doesn’t matter the result, every single week, they come here and they support us and they sing their souls out.

“I just want to say thank you so much for taking me in.”
