Rishabh Pant etched his name in the history books during the first day of play in the first Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on Friday (June 20) as he scored a half-century to ensure India ensured they made the most of a strong start.

After a troubled season with the bat in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), Pant reassured India that he remains their biggest match-winner in the longest format of the game. The newly appointed vice-captain of the Indian team was unbeaten on 65 at stumps as India finished the day's play at 359-3 after centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.

Through the course of the innings, Pant has become the second Indian wicket-keeper batter to score 3000 runs in Test cricket, alongside MS Dhoni . The 27-year-old broke Kumar Sangakkara 's record to become the quickest player from Asia (by innings) to reach the milestone. Pant has four tons, which is the second-most in this list, and the most by an Asian player. The Indian star is also nearing Dhoni's record for the most runs by a visiting batter in England and has a good chance to break the record. Pant is nearing a historic third ton in England. No other visiting keeper in history, apart from the 27-year-old has more than one ton in England.
