Mayo relieve McStay of managerial duties

Mayo GAA have tonight made the decision to "relieve Kevin McStay and his management team from their roles" with the senior football team.

The call was made at a Coiste Bainistíocht meeting held in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this evening.

"We would like to sincerely thank Kevin and his management team for their time, effort, and commitment to the Mayo Senior Football Team during their tenure," a statement said.

"Their dedication to the players and the jersey has been greatly appreciated by all involved with Mayo GAA.

"We wish Kevin and his management team every success in the future, both on and off the field. An update regarding the future management of the Senior Football Team will be provided in due course."

McStay was appointed as the Mayo senior football manager in August 2022 on a four-year term.

He succeeded James Horan, who stepped down after Mayo's defeat to Kerry in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

His initial backroom team included Stephen Rochford, Liam McHale, and Donie Buckley.

McHale subsequently departed the county's football management after one year’s involvement.

At the end of May, Mayo GAA confirmed that McStay had stepped back from his role as senior team manager for the immediate future due to personal health issues.

They added that Rochford would be in charge for their games in the All-Ireland SFC. Two weeks ago their 2025 championship run ended with a dramatic, last-gasp defeat to Donegal.
