After posting a brilliant win over Navarro, the seventh seed confessed that she was “nervous” because of Federer’s presence in the royal box.

“I was super nervous before playing first time on the Centre Court. I really tried my best not to look over there, in the box, because I knew that, as soon as I would look there, I would completely lose my focus, and so did I at 4-1. I saw Roger and Mirka,” the teenager said.

“Honestly, it means a lot that you came and watched my match. It’s been one of my dreams to see you in real life. When I saw both of you, I got really, really nervous. But I am super happy that I managed to keep playing focused,” she added.

The young Russian also paid a compliment to Federer’s wife on her choice of outfit, stating:

“Just wanted to say real quick, Mirka, you look really pretty, I really like your outfit.”

At 18 years and 62 days, Andreeva is the youngest woman to reach the Wimbledon singles quarterfinals since her countrywoman Maria Sharapova did so in 2005. Sharapova went on to win the title that year.

With her win over Navarro, the Russian has booked a meeting with Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the last eight. The Swiss booked her place in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time in her career after beating 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6(4), 6-4.
