Sanju Samson To Join Chennai Super Kings? 'RR Have Decided...'

Rumour mills are abuzz that Sanju Samson may be traded to Chennai Super Kings by his IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.

Soon after the conclusion of the IPL 2025, social media went abuzz with rumours of a potentially massive trade between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. With five-time champions CSK in hunt for a reliable and long-term replacement for their talisman MS Dhoni, a legendary wicketkeeper-batter, there were claims of Sanju Samson’s being looked at as an option.

Samson has been captaining RR for some time now besides being their first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, occasional opener and a top-order batter. With Dhoni’s IPL career inching closer to its end, CSK will be desperate for a quality successor and Samson, given his experience as a batter and leader, would have been a decent choice.

However, a latest report has put those rumours to bed with RR not planning to trade Samson or for that matter any of their players. The franchise reportedly wants Samson to be their “undisputed" captain.

“RR have decided not to trade Samson or any of their players for now. Samson is very much a part of the Royals set-up and the undisputed captain of the team," a source was quoted as saying by The Times Of India.

Besides CSK, Samson has also been linked to three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 30-year-old India cricketer made limited appearances for RR in last IPL season thanks to an index finger injury. He played in 9 matches and scored 285 runs at a strike-rate of 140.39. In his absence, Riyan Parag captained the franchise.

Samson was first signed by KKR in 2012 but was unused and was subsequently released. He then joined RR and made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab). He stayed with the team for four seasons before joining Delhi Capitals with RR suspended for two seasons. At the IPL 2018 auction, RR again picked him at his base price of Rs 18 crore and three years later, he was named as their captain. He celebrated the promotion with a century in his first match as their skipper.

So far, Samson has scored 4704 runs in 177 IPL matches. He has three centuries and 26 half-centuries to his name.
