Diondre Overton, a two-time national champion Clemson receiver, has died, the school announced Saturday.

He was 26 years old.

Per a press release from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially received a call about a noise disturbance from a loud large party on Spring Mill Road in Greensboro, North Carolina, and later learned of a shooting happening at the scene.

Overton, who won national championships with the Tigers in 2016 and 2018, was identified as the shooting victim and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said a homicide investigation is active and in the works.

Overton had 52 catches for 777 yards and seven touchdowns during his four seasons with the Tigers, which voted him a senior team captain in 2019.

The school also posted a photo of a Clemson balloon and flowers laid by a plaque with Overton’s name on campus.

He was not drafted to the NFL and spent time in the CFL, European League of Football, USFL’s Philadelphia Stars and then the UFL, after being taken by the Memphis Showboats in this year’s dispersal draft.
