Alexis Mac Allister reveals what Liverpool players thought about Alexander Isak saga

Alexis Mac Allister has lifted the lid on what the feeling was like inside Liverpool during the Alexander Isak transfer saga.

Isak joined the Reds on deadline day in a British transfer record £125 million move from Newcastle United after months of constant speculation.

Liverpool were forced to wait a month after the initial £110m offer was rejected as the Magpies reportedly struggled to find a suitable replacement for the Swedish international.

However, Isak made his debut in the 3-2 win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, in which the Reds relied on a 92nd-minute goal from Virgil van Dijk to rescue the three points at Anfield after squandering yet another two-goal advantage.

And while Mac Allister missed the opportunity to play alongside his new teammate on Wednesday, he has shared what the Liverpool players were thinking during the summer’s biggest transfer story.

Liverpool players grew tired of the Alexander Isak speculation

In an interview with a Liverpool fan for TNT Sport, Mac Allister revealed that although the players are excited about Isak joining the squad, they believed the saga dragged on for far too long.

“At the beginning, it was a big thing, maybe, and after we got a little bit tired of it because it was, it was too long. But we all know the player he is. I think he’s going to be really, really important, and we are happy to have him here.

We know maybe in the other club they are not happy, but that’s the way football works, and at the end they paid quite a lot of money. So I think it’s good for both clubs. It’s good for him because at the end is what he wanted, and we are so happy to have him because we know the player he is and we suffer (against) him a couple of times as well.”

Isak, of course, scored the winner in Newcastle’s win against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last season and boasted an impressive record against his new club, notching four goals and one assist in six matches.

Although numerous widespread reports have suggested that Isak would have joined Anfield sooner had Liverpool not beaten Newcastle to Hugo Ekitike, it did not matter, as both signed on the dotted line before the transfer window closed.

TBR Football revealed that Isak has impressed in training at Liverpool and has looked particularly sharp in sessions despite having no pre-season preparations at St James’ Park.

The 25-year-old may not have scored on his competitive debut for the Reds, but the supporters were pleased with Isak and what they saw from their record signing against Atletico.

Arne Slot suggests Alexander Isak will not start vs Everton

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Merseyside derby on Saturday, Slot was dismissive when asked if Isak could also start against Everton.

“I don’t think I tell the media a lot the day before the game how we start the game. So we had a recovery yesterday. Actually, we’re going to train this afternoon. So first of all, we have to see how they all feel.

“What I do know is that Alex did feel his body more, maybe than ever before, after the 60 minutes he played. So let’s see how he recovers, how he’s recovered today, and yeah, then we’re going to think about the lineup mainly today, and you will hear it then tomorrow.”

Isak was removed just before the hour mark in the Champions League. He defied expectations by remaining on the pitch for as long as he did and is likely to make way for Ekitike for the derby.
