Bruno Fernandes reacts to Anthony Martial's message after debut for new team

Amidst massive changes at Manchester United, a familiar name in Anthony Martial recently emerged from the shadows and made his debut for a new team.

Anthony Martial left the club in the summer of 2023 and was forced to take a step back in his career with a move to Greek side AEK Athens.

Martial showed flashes at AEK, and even did something he rarely could at Old Trafford, but it was unfulfilling at the end for all parties involved.

He found a new club again this summer, and after making his debut, sent a message that received a response from Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes.

Anthony Martial makes Monterrey debut, Bruno Fernandes reacts

Martial was at least still in European football while playing for AEK, but he has left it entirely with his next move.

The Frenchman joined Mexican side Monterrey FC on September 12, signing a two-year deal.

Martial scored nine and assisted twice in 24 appearances for AEK last season, so he can clearly still make an impact, but his injury issues keep troubling him.

Monterrey, on the other hand, have managed quite a coup because Martial’s profile in world football remains extremely high, so he will bring added eyeballs to the club.

The striker came off the bench in their recent 2-2 draw against CF America to mark his debut. Although it was a ceremonial appearance after coming on in the 90th minute, it’s at least the start of a new journey.

After the game, Martial wrote on Instagram, “First game with the team with an amazing atmosphere, thank you all for your welcome. Come on [Monterrey]” (Original message in Spanish).

Bruno Fernandes reacted with an eye-heart emoji, and his post was liked by Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, and Facundo Pellistri, among others.

Martial is done in European football

After his momentum in Greece was sapped by another meniscus injury, it seems more likely than not that his journey in Europe is over.

A good, and more importantly, an injury-free spell with AEK could have opened doors for him in a top-five league, especially in French football.

As it stands, this move to Mexican football probably spells the end of his journey in Europe, and with Martial now 29, it’s hard to see a comeback.

If anything, the injury issues will increase if he’s not careful with his advancing age, so the heat of Mexican football might not be the best move for him.
