Andrea Pirlo privately thinks Liverpool have made a really good signing this summer

Liverpool signed most of their main transfer targets in the summer window.

Players such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Alexander Isak have all been brought in by Arne Slot, with each of them likely to take a place in Liverpool’s starting XI.

Indeed, it’s still early days in the season, but since Liverpool have already won their first three Premier League games this season, things seem to be going rather smoothly.

Of course, not all of the Reds’ new arrivals have made their debuts yet, but as the season goes on, it’d be a surprise if the entire team doesn’t end up being rotated in one way or another.

And now, Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo has even praised a piece of business that Slot and Richard Hughes conducted in the summer.

Of all Liverpool’s signings this summer, the arrival of Giovanni Leoni has mostly gone under the radar.

The 18-year-old was signed from Parma with the Reds beating the likes of Inter Milan to his transfer this summer.

Leoni cost the Anfield outfit around £26million to bring to Merseyside, and although he hasn’t been given his debut yet, it’s not likely to be all that long before he makes his first appearance.

That is, especially if Ibrahima Konate doesn’t end up getting his act together soon.

And, while speaking live on Cronache di Spogliatoio in quotes relayed by Sampdoria News, former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini has shared what Pirlo privately told him about Leoni.

“Milan sells Thiaw for 42 million, why don’t you go get Leoni? Liverpool paid him 35, it’s true that it would have been even more bet than Odogu, because you only took him at 10,” he said.

“But he was also a major blow for the environment and the fans: a young, Italian boy who showed his qualities in football.

The centre-back was one of the most sought-after youngsters in the world during the summer transfer window, with Liverpool even bringing their move for him forward by a year.

As mentioned, since the striker is still just 18 years old, there’s plenty of time and room for him to grow at Anfield, especially with Virgil van Dijk now having his stay extended until 2027.

In reality, Liverpool fans aren’t likely to see Leoni be used each week, but instead, they can expect him to be the Reds’ next Van Dijk.

He’s 6’4, has a keen eye for a pass and from the pictures that Liverpool have released of him during training, he looks like an absolute unit.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but the fact that Pirlo is impressed by him and the fact that he was a regular starter for Parma last year shows that he’ll be ready whenever Slot calls upon him.
