Jessica Pegula found herself in a puzzling social media moment after her billionaire father Terry Pegula’s NFL team, the Buffalo Bills, publicly showed support for Canada’s Major League Baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays, ahead of the 2025 American League Division Series against the New York Yankees. Former Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard quickly jumped into the conversation, amplifying the lighthearted exchange.

How Did Jessica Pegula and Eugenie Bouchard React to the Bills Supporting the Blue Jays?

The ALDS, set to begin on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 4:08 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre in Toronto, marks the first postseason meeting between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays secured their spot by finishing atop the AL East Division, earning a bye through the wildcard round.

In a surprising move, the Buffalo Bills took to social media to wish the Blue Jays good luck instead of their home team, posting on X: “Good luck to our friends up North‼️”

This message was met with confusion in the form of a comment from Pegula, who responded, “Ohhh???”

Bouchard also chimed in, replying to Pegula’s comment with “I second this. Ohhh???”

Pegula Sent Love to Bouchard Following the Canadian’s Retirement Announcement

Pegula lauded Bouchard following the Canadian star’s retirement announcement earlier this year. Bouchard, who began playing tennis at age five, turned professional in 2009 and had an impressive junior career, highlighted by her 2012 Wimbledon girls’ singles title.

“I feel like she really put Canadian tennis on the map a little bit with how well she did when she was younger, doing well in juniors, and then obviously doing well making the finals at Wimbledon. I feel like tennis has gotten really big here, and I think she’s one of the reasons why,” Pegula said in her 2025 Canadian Open press conference.

Bouchard, a Canadian household name after her 2014 Wimbledon final run, retired following her final match in Montreal. She entered this year’s National Bank Open on a wildcard to give one last performance at home. She won her first singles match in nearly two years against Emiliana Arango before losing in the second round to 17th seed Belinda Bencic. Since retiring, she has focused mainly on the pro pickleball circuit.

Pegula, on the other hand, is currently participating in the China Open in Beijing. The fifth seed cruised past Ajla Tomljanović, 30th seed Emma Raducanu, 23rd seed Marta Kostyuk, and 16th seed Emma Navarro to reach the semifinals, where she will take on 26th seed Linda Nosková.

This will be their third meeting on the WTA Tour, with the head-to-head between them tied at 1-1. The winner will face either second seed Coco Gauff or third seed Amanda Anisimova in the final.
