UEFA Women’s EURO 2025: What did we learn from Spain’s perfect group record?

1
Spain solidified their place at the top of Group B with a 3-1 win over Italy on Friday (11 July), in their final group outing of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

They have never won all three of their group games in a major football tournament before tonight, making it a remarkable first.

The reigning world champions had to come from behind after Elisabetta Oliviero fired the Italians ahead just 10 minutes in.

It was an instant response from the Spanish, with Athenea del Castillo finishing off a sublime team move with an equally fantastic finish.

Patri Guijarro maximised on a poor clearance in the second 45, an instinctive half-volley sailing past Laura Giuliani between the sticks.

All three points were sealed in stoppage time, when Esther Gonzalez buried Alexia Putellas' teasing ball into the box to make it three.

Elsewhere in Group B, Belgium beat Portugal 2-1 to finish third, but both sides will bow out at this stage of the competition.
