Wimbledon champion appears emotional after match halted and vitals taken in concerning scenes

Reigning Wimbledon women's singles champion Barbora Krejcikova needed her blood pressure measured mid-match against Emma Navarro.

Krejcikova was trailing the American in the third set of their third round clash when the alarming moment happened.

Krejcikova didn't appear to look too well on No.1 Court and was then seen to by medical officials in worrying scenes.

Staff could be seen measuring her blood pressure before time was called and the Czech star returned to the court.

However, Krejcikova was still seemingly in discomfort as she hunched over on multiple occasions afterwards.

Navarro eventually emerged as the winner with a 2-6 6-3 6-4 victory to book her place in the last 16.

Krejcikova, who at one point appeared tearful, understandably cut a disappointed figure following the match.

Many of the Wimbledon crowd gave her a standing ovation when she walked off the court.

The 29-year-old won her second ever Grand Slam title in SW19 last year by beating Jasmine Paolini.

Her Wimbledon victory followed success at the 2021 French Open.

However, Krejcikova's title defence has come to an end in unfortunate circumstances on Saturday afternoon.

Navarro will next face teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva for a spot in the quarter-finals.

"It was really tough out here today," she said in her post-match interview. "I think probably neither of us played our best tennis.

"I know she was dealing with some injuries at times, and I was dealing with whatever I was dealing with over there [points to the court].

"I think it was really tough today, but I'm just so grateful to be playing here at Wimbledon and be playing in front of you guys.

"I have to remind myself how special of an opportunity this is when I'm out here."

Navarro was asked about keeping her composure when playing an opponent who's in distress.

"It's really not easy, part of you is telling yourself, 'Just put a bunch of balls in the court and that's all you have to do.'

"But then, she's an amazing player [with] no injuries, so that's not good enough.

"Then you trick yourself into taking too much off the ball and not playing the way you want to play so, not an easy challenge for sure."
