While Corofin may have had a stranglehold on the competition over the last decade or so, there is no doubting the high standard on offer in the Galway Senior Football Championship.This year's competition features some very impressive teams, with the likes of Salthill/Knocknacarra and Moycullen likely to be in the mix towards the end of the competition.Mountbellew-Moylough were another side that would have been expected to be in contention, having won the 2021 edition. Mountbellew-Moylough would then look as though they may have been awarded a last gasp free to level the game.However, after the foul was not given, Mountbellew-Moylough full forward Barry McHugh would lash out by striking no less than three opposition players. He was unsurprisingly sent off as a result, with the final whistle sounding soon after.This was a massive victory for Killanin, who have been part of the senior ranks for a decade after being promoted from intermediate in 2014. They have only reached one senior county final in their history, which came back in 2000. They will face Tuam Stars in the quarter-finals.As for Mountbellew-Moylough, they will be massively disappointed to exit the Galway championship before even reaching the last eight.Corofin will still be seen as favourites to win the competition, with the club currently on the hunt for a third consecutive county title. They will take on Dunmore MacHales in the last eight, with Salthill/Knocknacarra vs St. James and Moycullen vs Oughterard completing the quarter-final lineup.
