Radhika Yadav, state-level tennis player, shot dead by father at Gurgaon home

Radhika Yadav (25), a state-level tennis player, was shot dead allegedly by her father at their residence in Gurgaon’s Sushant Lok-II on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the accused, Deepak Yadav, was arrested, and the licensed revolver used in the crime was recovered.

The incident took place at 10.30 am.

According to police, preliminary questioning of the accused revealed that Radhika ran a tennis academy, which her father disapproved of. A dispute over this issue led Deepak to shoot his daughter three times, resulting in her death, they said.

“He had asked her several times to stop running her academy,” a police spokesperson said.

Based on a complaint by the deceased’s uncle, who is the brother of the accused, police said a case was registered at the Sector 56 police station under relevant sections.

“Police teams, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Sector 56 station in-charge, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), crime scene, and fingerprint units, inspected the spot and the victim’s body. The body was sent for post-mortem examination,” a spokesperson said.

Police are conducting a thorough investigation, examining all aspects of the case, and are questioning the accused to uncover further details, police added.

The gun has been seized, they said.

Radhika, born on March 23, 2000, was an emerging tennis player from Haryana.

She had competed in various national and international tournaments, achieving a career-best ranking of 75 in Girls Under-18, 53 in Women’s Doubles, and 35 in Women’s Singles as per All India Tennis Association (AITA) records.

She was active on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit, where she was ranked 113.
