What Marc Guehi did after Chelsea game might suggest he’s about to leave Crystal Palace for Liverpool

Liverpool are still keen on bringing in another centre-back and target Marc Guehi may have just dropped a subtle hint that he is ready to join.

The Reds started the season off perfectly in terms of a result after winning 4-2 at home to Bournemouth, but the overall performance was far from ideal.

Although fans love a last-minute winner, they would have much preferred a comfortable and controlled victory, just like they were used to seeing under Arne Slot so many times last season.

However, pre-season, and now in this game, that ‘heavy metal’ football that Jurgen Klopp deployed in the early days has started to creep in, perhaps why they are so keen to bring in another centre-back to solidify things a little.

Guehi has been, and remains, the top target, and after seeing what he did after Crystal Palace’s game against Chelsea, he may have just hinted that he already has his bags packed ready for a move to Liverpool.

Marc Guehi ignores Oliver Glasner

Similarly to Alexander Isak, Guehi to Liverpool is a saga that has dragged on a little while longer than most would have hoped, although, of course, it involves a lot less money.

Liverpool do not want to pay above £30m for the Englishman as he has a year left on his contract, while Palace are holding out for around £35m-£40m, with there being no breakthrough in settling the difference.

This might be something that has annoyed Guehi a little too as he wants to make the move to Anfield, with his frustrations looking like they had boiled over after the final whistle on Sunday.

When walking off the pitch, his manager Oliver Glasner called him over to say something to him, but Guehi just looked at him and continued to walk down the tunnel, snubbing his own boss on the pitch in front of the cameras.

Whether he was annoyed at the results as Palace had a goal disallowed or if it was something else may never be known, but the look of bewilderment on Glasner’s face perhaps tells the story.

Of course, as bad as this is for Palace fans, Liverpool supporters might be quietly happy about the way things are playing out, with it looking like only a matter of time before Guehi makes the switch.

After Marc Guehi, Liverpool can go all-out for Alexander Isak

Although the Reds have spent close to £300m, they still feel a few additions short, especially in defence,

So, after signing Giovanni Leoni, Guehi should be their next priority, with his arrival then putting an end to signing any more defensive players as they should be just about covered.

Then, once he is through the door, Liverpool can put all their focus on one last, big signing, this being Isak.

Newcastle likely will not sell him before their meeting with the Reds next Monday, giving them just one week to get the deal done.

However, despite the amount of money involved, everything is basically agreed on the player’s side, it is just the final transfer fee that needs sorting, suggesting it might not take very long to get over the line.

If Liverpool do get both Guehi and Isak, it will certainly be a transfer window for the ages, although the pressure on them to win the Premier League again will only increase.
