Italy international Federico Chiesa is tipped to start for Liverpool against Chelsea on May 4 as the ex-Juventus star seeks one more appearance to be guaranteed a Premier League winners’ medal.

Standard.co.uk reports Italian winger Chiesa is expected to start Liverpool’s next Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old has only made four Premier League appearances this season, none as a starter and needs to play one more game with the Reds to be guaranteed a winners’ medal.

The Reds mathematically clinched their 20th domestic title last week after a 5-1 win against Tottenham at Anfield.

Therefore, Liverpool coach Arne Slot is expected to rotate his squad in the remaining league fixtures, and Chiesa could be given a chance in the Reds’ front three.

The former Juventus and Fiorentina star has been struggling with injuries this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions. Chiesa has only collected 395 minutes of football with Liverpool this term and hasn’t played for the Azzurri since last summer’s Euros.

What Slot said about Chiesa

“I don’t think they [Chiesa and Elliott] have anything to prove to me, because I see them every single day on the training ground, and I’ve seen them playing for us in the past or this season,” the coach said via Liverpool.com.

“Federico, not in the past, but he has had a great career at other clubs as well, so I don’t think these players have to prove the quality players they are.

“I think they want to prove for themselves that they are good enough to play for us, and I already know that they are, and probably they themselves know this as well. So no, I don’t think they have a point to prove, but I do think they would like to play.

“But as I said, it’s not now that all the ones who have played all the games are not going to play anymore, and all the others are going to play now. I did this once before, Plymouth away, and I got quite a lot of criticism from you, didn’t I!”
