Jasprit Bumrah delivered perhaps the ball of IPL 2025 as Gujarat Titans' Washington Sundar 'bowed' to the greatness of Mumbai Indians pacer during the IPL 2025 Eliminator.

From tattering at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table to reaching the Qualifier 2, Mumbai Indians have come a long way. But all of this would be of no meaning had Jasprit Bumrah not delivered that yorker. It was the night of Eliminator, after all. The loss against Gujarat Titans would have meant that Mumbai Indians would wait another year to bag their sixth title. But Bumrah, one of India’s modern greats, came in clutch, keeping the Men in Blue in the run in the journey to the IPL 2025 finals.

What did Bumrah do, you ask?

Photo Of The Year?

Brought into the action by captain Hardik Pandya during the fourteenth over of Gujarat Titans’ run chase, Bumrah was up against two set batters: Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar. After restricting the batters to three singles in his first three deliveries at a time when GT were flying to the MI target of 229, Bumrah bowled the ball of the night. It was a scorching yorker, one that left Sundar stumped. Bowled with precision and perfection, the left-handed batter tried to dig it out. But it was too little too late as the ball crashed onto the stumps travelling through Sundar’s legs. The batter appeared to be bowing to the greatness of Bumrah as Sundar was left in an awkward pose.

“When you need him he’s always there," Harsha Bhogle, sat in the commentary box, exclaimed.

Bumrah did what Bumrah does best – a scorching yorker that zeroed in on middle stump and uprooted Washington Sundar! 🔥 Precision, pace, perfection. When he’s on, no batter is safe. 💥💙 #Bumrah #MIvsGT #IPL2025 pic.twitter.com/qiUJf52esi— Cricket for her (@coverdrivetoher) May 30, 2025

The Impact

Bumrah gave only 27 runs in his four overs while scalping the solo wicket of Sundar. That solo wicket came at a time when Sudharsan and Sundar had weaved a magical partnership of 84 runs and were well on course to taking GT to Qualifier 2. Gujarat needed 59 off 27 with both batters cruising to the target before Bumrah decided to bring Mumbai Indians back in control of the proceedings.

Fans In Awe

Understandably, the viewers were left in awe of Bumrah’s “let me do it myself" energy.

“Even the best bowler has an off day occasionally. I can’t remember when Jasprit Bumrah last had one. It is a privilege to be on air when he bowls," Bhogle wrote on ‘X’.

“I will watch this delivery again and again till the Qualifier 2. Jasprit Bumrah you have rocked my world," quipped a fan.

“Jasprit Bumrah plays for my favorite IPL franchise. It’s an honour, arrogance, privilege and flex."

When quizzed about the timing of bringing Bumrah back into action, Pandya candidly said this.

Question: How do you decide when to bowl Jasprit Bumrah?Hardik Pandya said "It's very simple – Whenever you feel the game is going far". (Big smile) pic.twitter.com/NkAmEvdglM — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) May 30, 2025

Exactly two overs later, Richard Gleeson put GT in a worrisome spot when the in-form batting powerhouse Sudharsan got bowled while trying to scoop one away. In the end, Gujarat fell short of the target by 20 runs and ended their IPL 2025 journey, losing the thrilling Eliminator to Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians will now lock horns with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2, eying a berth in the IPL finals against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the much-anticipated encounter scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3.
