Grayson leaves in the wake of yesterday’s disappointing FA Cup fourth-qualifying round draw with Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity. The former Sunderland and Leeds United manager presided over 15 competitive matches as Pools boss, winning just four.He leaves with Pools sitting in 12th position in the National League table, with 18 points from their opening 14 league matches.Pools chairman Raj Singh will now start the search for his permanent successor, with club stalwart, Nicky Featherstone, taking charge of Tuesday’s FA Cup replay with Gainsborough, supported by coaches Elliott Dickman and Adam Smith.A Pools statement said: “Hartlepool United Football Club has today parted company with manager Simon Grayson.“Following discussions yesterday evening and a board meeting this morning, it became clear that expectations with performances and results have not been met.“Obtaining one win in the last 11 games falls short of the required standard; therefore, the board of directors have collectively made the extremely difficult decision to relieve Simon of his duties.“The board wishes to thank Simon for his efforts and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
