A shocking video from Firozpur, Punjab, has gone viral across social media platforms, capturing the tragic moment a local cricketer collapsed and died seconds after hitting a six during a match. The incident has sent shockwaves through the sports community and beyond.

The harrowing footage shows the batter, later identified as Harjeet Singh, at the DAV School Ground, Financial Express reported. After powerfully hitting the ball for a six, Singh is seen walking towards the non-striker’s end, seemingly celebrating with his partner. But, in a sudden turn of events, he kneels down and abruptly collapses on the pitch.

Fellow players on the field immediately rushed to his aid, attempting to revive him with CPR, but in vain. Singh had reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead on the spot. The incident comes after actor and model Shefali Jariwala died on June 27, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest at 42.

In a similar incident, a 34-year-old software engineer collapsed mid-field while playing cricket in January 2024. He was rushed to a hospital by other players and was declared dead on arrival. A video doing the rounds on social media showed the deceased Vikas Negi walking across the pitch to meet his batting partner Umesh Kumar following a boundary in the 14th over of the innings before collapsing, prompting the wicketkeeper, bowler and other players to rush to his aid.

According to a report by NDTV, Negi's body was sent for a post-mortem examination and doctors declared heart attack as the cause of death. According to a preliminary report, Negi was healthy but was a Covid survivor. He used to often play cricket in Noida and Delhi to keep himself fit.

After the pandemic, there have been increasing instances of Covid survivors between 30-40 years dying of heart attacks.
