What To Know About The NASCAR Chicago Street Race This Weekend

DOWNTOWN — As NASCAR prepares to host its third Chicago Street Race this weekend, the future of the event in the city remains uncertain.

Here’s what to know about this weekend’s race and related activities.

When And Where Is The Race?

NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race Weekend returns Saturday and Sunday for the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series along the same 12-turn, 2.2-mile street course as in previous years, which zips in and around Grant Park.

How Much Are Tickets?

Single-day general admission tickets are still available for $123, according to Ticketmaster. General admission tickets for the entire two-day racing event are currently listed at $186.

One-day reserved seating along Congress and Michigan Avenue is also still available with tickets priced at $247, according to Ticketmaster.

Kids under 12 are free the entire weekend when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series and Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series will both hit the track this weekend and will be available to watch on TNT and truTV, plus streaming on Max.

The Grammy-winning Southern rock group will kick off the two-day race weekend with a performance on Saturday.

All attendees with tickets to the Chicago Street Race will have access to Saturday’s concert, including those with Sunday-only tickets to the race.

Here’s the full schedule for on-course events:

Saturday, July 5

Xfinity Series practice: 9:30 a.m.

Xfinity Series qualifying: 10:30 a.m.

Cup Series practice: noon

Cup Series qualifying: 1 p.m.

Xfinity Series race (The Loop 110): 3:30 p.m.

Zac Brown Concert: Time TBD

Sunday, July 6

Cup Series race (Grant Park 165): 1 p.m.

Free NASCAR Village

Located at Butler Field, the NASCAR village is completely free for the general public to attend Saturday and Sunday.

The expanded pop-up, created in partnership with Chicago Loop Alliance and JoRand, will include more than a dozen local restaurants, Chicago-based retailers, live art, and interactive NASCAR attractions, including racing simulators and driver appearances.

The village will spotlight Chicago eateries like Mr. Beef and Tacotlan, along with immersive exhibits like the NASCAR Experience.

NASCAR Village is open 8:45 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. through the end of Sunday’s race.

Not Going To The Race But Live Nearby? Here’s What You Need To Know

Grant Park’s tennis courts and pickleball courts are closed through July 7.

The Grant Park Dog Park will also be closed Saturday and Sunday. A temporary dog park will be set up near the Grant Skate Park, off Roosevelt Road between Michigan Avenue and the railroad tracks.

Millennium Park, Maggie Daley Park and the Museum Campus, which are not part of the event footprint, will remain open.

The Museum Campus, Columbus Underpass and the Chicago Lakefront Trail — including Monroe Street and Roosevelt Road — will also stay open during the NASCAR Street Race.

Drivers visiting the Museum Campus July 3-8 should exit DuSable Lake Shore Drive at 31st Street from the south or at 18th Drive from the north via I-55.

– Beginning 10 p.m.: Closure of westbound and eastbound Roosevelt Road from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive. July 3 – Beginning 12:01 a.m.: Closure of southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive between Randolph Street and McFetridge Road.

Northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive will begin reopening 6 a.m. July 7.

All NASCAR-related demobilization is expected to conclude by the end of the day July 14.
