Ian Rush claims Liverpool have a player who is like a 'modern-day Kenny Dalglish'

To be considered among Liverpool’s best of all time is an honour, and to get the seal of approval from one of those legends in Ian Rush is even better.

There have been so many players who have put on the red shirt over the years who have been able to weave their name into the rich tapestry of this incredible football club through iconic moments or record-breaking seasons.

In modern times, those who are amongst the greats include Steven Gerrard, who captained the club to European success and steadied the ship during times when there were issues with the team.

But there is also one player who has been a force for the side since signing in 2017, and that is Mohamed Salah, who is continuing to break records as if it were nothing, both in Liverpool and Premier League history.

Last season’s performances were nothing short of legendary and propelled him up the rankings of all-time scorers for the league and the club.

In the English top-flight, he has become the fourth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history, and after his assist against Everton in their 2-1 Merseyside Derby victory, he is now on the top 10 list for all-time assists.

Before the derby, Rush was asked about the ‘Egyptian King’ in comparison to the best players that have graced the Anfield pitch.

During this interview for TNT Sports, the Welshman was incredibly complimentary towards the modern forward who was taking the club in an incredibly successful direction.

Rush said: “100%, he is like the modern-day Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, that is what it is all about. Hopefully, we can get another two years out of him and hopefully a lot more goals.”

To have the support and admiration from another one of the club’s best forwards is an honour for any player, and the comparisons to Kenny Dalglish are not only accurate, but are also a true reflection of how he has made his mark on Merseyside.

Mohamed Salah needs 37 goals to overtake Roger Hunt, and Ian Rush thinks he can do it

The 33-year-old’s record is nothing short of astounding for the eight years he has been with the club.

Currently, Salah is third on the all-time scorers list with 248 goals, trailing 37 behind the great Roger Hunt, who scored 285 when he was up front for the Reds.

It would be some feat for him to claim the number one spot held by Rush himself, who netted 346 for the side.

However, the former striker does believe that the Egyptian winger has every chance of taking over Hunt in the list.

He said: “Why not? You know he has had a fantastic career so far, and hopefully he has got another two years, and let’s hope he can get one closer today.”

Salah’s legacy at Liverpool when he decides to leave or retire is that of a player who was one of the best wingers in the club’s history.

The day he finishes up in the Premier League will be a sad day, but the records, trophies, and memories will last a lifetime.
