On the day when Radhika Yadav, the 25-year-old national-level Tennis player was shot dead by her father on July 10, she was preparing something special for her mother. It was her mother’s, Manju Yadav’s, birthday when her father, Deepak Yadav, shot her in their home.

According to police, at the time of the murder, only Radhika, her mother, and her father were present on the first floor of the house. Manju, who was unwell and resting due to fever, was unaware of what had transpired.

Meanwhile, Deepak Yadav, who was arrested in the case, has confessed to killing his daughter. Amid the ongoing investigation, he confessed that he was deeply disturbed by villagers’ taunts that he was surviving off his daughter’s income, and thus, he killed her.

According to a Gurugram Police spokesman, Deepak was also upset over his daughter running her tennis academy despite his opposition to the venture.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep told IANS that Radhika was running her tennis academy against her father’s wish.

“The accused has admitted to committing the crime," the ASI said, adding that Deepak Yadav’s brother Kuldeep, who lives on the ground floor of the house, is the complainant in the case.

Radhika Yadav was widely regarded as one of the most promising talents in Indian women’s doubles tennis. On November 4, 2024, she achieved a major milestone by reaching her career-best ITF women’s doubles ranking of 113, earning 10 international points — a significant accomplishment for a young athlete balancing both national and international tournaments.

Within Haryana’s competitive tennis circuit, Radhika held the #5 ranking in women’s doubles. Her name often appeared alongside other emerging players such as Poorvi Bhatt (ranked 109) and Thaniya Sarai Gogulamanda (ranked 125).
