Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League.Darwin Nunez's potential move to Saudi Arabia could be scuppered by Liverpool’s striker's apparent desire to stay in Europe. In what appeared to be his final game at Anfield, the 27-year-old scored in the friendly win over Athletic Club on Monday, and was afforded generous applause as he left the field late on. The Uruguayan international has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Arne Slot last summer. Despite playing his part in the club’s Premier League title win, he was mostly confined to a replacement role, and his manager publicly criticised his work rate. Nunez has now been linked with a number of clubs, both on the continent and in the Middle East. Al-Hilal, coached by former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, are said to be one of the interested parties. However, Nunez is reportedly reluctant to leave European club football at this stage of his career. AC Milan and Napoli are two clubs being touted to make a bid, and Atletico Madrid are also said to be in the running.Nunez scored against Athletic Club on Monday. He seems to think a move to Saudi Arabia would be harmful to his ambitions and also rule out the chance of playing Champions League football. Nunez's contract, which he signed in the summer of 2023, still has three years to run after moving from Benfica in a deal potentially worth £85million after add-ons. Liverpool need a big-money sale to help fund their pursuit of Alexander Isak. Having already had a £110m bid, plus add-ons, rejected, fans are now waiting on FSG to make an increased offer. Therefore, Nunez turning down a move to Saudi is likely to spark frustration from club chiefs. He was wanted by another Pro League club, Al Nassr, during the January transfer window, but opted to stay on Merseyside. Despite the speculation, he has continued to train with the Liverpool first-team squad this summer. The Reds begin their 2025/26 season on Sunday in the Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace.
